Noise-induced perturbations of dispersion-managed solitons

چکیده
We study noise-induced perturbations of dispersion-managed solitons. We do so by first developing soliton perturbation theory for the dispersion-managed nonlinear Schrödinger DMNLS equation, which governs the long-term behavior of optical fiber transmission systems and certain kinds of femtosecond lasers. We show that the eigenmodes and generalized eigenmodes of the linearized DMNLS equation around traveling-wave solutions can be generated from the invariances of the DMNLS equations, we quantify the perturbation-induced parameter changes of the solution in terms of the eigenmodes and the adjoint eigenmodes, and we obtain evolution equations for the solution parameters. We then apply these results to guide importance-sampled Monte Carlo MC simulations and reconstruct the probability density functions of the solution parameters under the effect of noise, and we compare with standard MC simulations of the unaveraged system. The comparison further validates the use of the DMNLS equation as a model for dispersion-managed systems.

متن کاملImportance Sampling for Dispersion-Managed Solitons
The dispersion-managed nonlinear Schrödinger (DMNLS) equation governs the long-term dynamics of systems which are subject to large and rapid dispersion variations. We present a method to study large, noiseinduced amplitude and phase perturbations of dispersion-managed solitons. The method is based on the use of importance sampling to bias Monte-Carlo simulations toward regions of state space wh...
متن کاملManakov solitons and polarization mode dispersion.
The effect of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) on Manakov solitons and dispersion managed solitons is treated analytically and by numerical simulation. In the analytic approach the internal motion of the Manakov soliton is represented as a damped harmonic oscillator. The PMD functions as a white noise source driving the oscillations. It is shown that the solitons can withstand PMD up to a cer...
متن کاملEffect of group-delay ripples on dispersion-managed soliton communication systems with chirped fiber gratings.
The effect of group-delay ripples in dispersion-managed soliton communication systems that use chirped fiber gratings for dispersion compensation is studied. Using both a reduced model and direct numerical simulation, we find that dispersion-managed solitons exist even in the presence of large dispersion variation caused by group-delay ripples. The dispersion-managed solitons suppress the growt...
متن کاملExponential Decay of Dispersion Managed Solitons for Vanishing Average Dispersion
We show that any L solution of the Gabitov-Turitsyn equation describing dispersion managed solitons decay exponentially in space and frequency domains. This confirms in the affirmative Lushnikov’s conjecture of exponential decay of dispersion managed solitons.
